Moving easily between dramatic and comedic roles, actress Lea Thompson has established a career that encompasses film, television and theatre. Best known for her role in Steven Spielberg and Robert Zemeckis' successful Back to the Future, I, II and III, audiences can now view Thompson's comedic side on a weekly basis as she stars as Caroline Duffy in the series, Caroline in the City. Developed by James Burrows, the show aired for four seasons and is now in national syndication. Thompson also starred in the five-hour miniseries A Will of Their Own for NBC. During the 1997 summer hiatus, Thompson completed the independent feature The Unknown Cyclist starring in this relationship drama which focuses on an AIDS benefit bicycle ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles. Vincent Spano, Steven Spinella and Danny Nucci co-starred. It aired on Starz/Encore in the fall, 1999. A native of Minneapolis, Thompson began her career as a professional ballet dancer and performed in more than 45 ballets. She subsequently moved to New York at the age of 19 to pursue an acting career. She was first featured in a small role in the motion picture Jaws 3-D, which was followed by a starring role opposite Tom Cruise in All the Right Moves. Additional film credits include Article 99, Casual Sex?, John Hughes' Some Kind of Wonderful and Dennis the Menace, The Wild Life, Space Camp, The Beverly Hillbillies and Little Rascals. Thompson's television credits include the Showtime original movie, "The Right to Remain Silent". Produced by John McTiernan, Thompson starred opposite Robert Loggia, with a supporting cast that included LL Cool J, Fisher Stevens, Amanda Plummer and Christopher Lloyd. Thompson starred in two NBC made-for-television movies, "The Unspoken Truth," and in 1994, "The Substitute Wife", opposite Peter Weller and Farrah Fawcett. Further credits include TNT's original movie, "Montana", an episode of HBO's acclaimed "Tales From the Crypt" and TNT's "Nightbreaker", for which she received a CableACE nomination starring opposite Martin Sheen and Emilio Estevez. Also, for Lifetime, Thompson starred in "Stolen Babies" opposite Mary Tyler Moore. Thompson's theatre work includes Bus Stop at the Pasadena Playhouse and Tony Kushner's The Illusion for the Los Angeles Theatre Center. Thompson has also appeared in the Powerhouse Theatre's production of Long Time Coming, Charlie Bacon's Family at the John Drew Theatre in East Hampton, and The Trip Back Down at the Actor's Repertory Theatre. Currently, Thompson lives in Los Angeles with her husband, film director Howard Deutch, and their two daughters.
